About Me

Fences on main roads

I'd love to be able to afford a house further off the main road, but unfortunately I'm not there yet. In the meantime, we live near a main road, and we have a huge fence to keep the dogs and the kids inside and the noise out. It's a challenge to find a design for a really big fence that doesn't look like a jail fence! I have researched all of the options I have to keep everyone safe and make our yard as comfortable as possible, and I thought this info might be useful for other homeowners like me.

Why Glass Balustrades Would Be Ideal For Your Home

by Ellen Wallo

When some homeowners consider balustrades for their residence, they assume they are simply a way of adding some flare to the different spaces that they will install them. Although balustrading is an element of interior as well as exterior design, they can also be quite functional too. The most conventional materials used for these handrails and balustrading is timber and metal. However, over the years, more people are seeking glass to add a contemporary feel to their spaces. So why would glass balustrades be ideal for your residence?

Glass balustrades offer you unobstructed views

One of the main benefits of glass handrails and balustrading is that they do not impede the views in and out of your residence. Traditional railings made from wood or metal are opaque. If installed on your balcony or stairs, you will not have a clear view through them. With glass balustrading, you will not have your line of vision impeded. This makes it great if you would like to keep an eye on your kids or if you would like to see your property from your balcony without having to get up.

Glass balustrades are safe and secure

A misconception some homeowners are under is that glass would be less safe when compared to wood or metal handrails and balustrades. This could not be further from the truth though. Conventional balustrade materials tend to designed with spindles to secure the handrails in place. The space in between the spindles can be a risk for adventurous children who may try to squeeze through them an inadvertently fall over. Glass balustrading, on the other hand, is installed as solid panels of glass. This prevents any accidents that could come about rom kids or pets accidentally slipping through them. In addition to this, glass balustrades are made from tempered glass. This type of glass is toughened, making it much more resistant to high impact. Therefore, you can rest assured that your glass balustrades will not be susceptible to breakage.

Glass balustrades create an illusion of space

Another thing to note about conventional balustrade materials such as wood and metal is that they make the spaces they are installed in appear boxed in. If you have a small home, this visual element could make your residence appear even smaller. Since glass balustrades are see though, they make the space they are installed in appear larger than it is. Additionally, since light easily filters through these balustrades, the enhanced illumination also works to make the space appear bigger.
