About Me

Fences on main roads

I'd love to be able to afford a house further off the main road, but unfortunately I'm not there yet. In the meantime, we live near a main road, and we have a huge fence to keep the dogs and the kids inside and the noise out. It's a challenge to find a design for a really big fence that doesn't look like a jail fence! I have researched all of the options I have to keep everyone safe and make our yard as comfortable as possible, and I thought this info might be useful for other homeowners like me.

Swimming Pools | 3 Smart Considerations Before Frameless Glass Pool Fencing Installations

by Ellen Wallo

Frameless glass pool fencing is specifically built to deliver crystal clear views of the landscape around the pool, while adding to the overall aesthetic appeal of your home. This sophisticated fencing solution provides a safe outdoor area by the poolside for your family without hindering any views. While glass pool fencing looks great, you need to apply careful thought and consideration in the early design phase to ensure that it meets with your needs and desires. Here are some smart guidelines to follow before installing frameless glass pool fences.

Follow Pool Fencing Regulations

Before deciding on the design, you must first consider the regulations your pool fence needs to follow. Keep in mind that glass pool fencing must strictly adhere to Australian pool fencing guidelines. For example, your frameless glass pool fence must be at least 1.2 metres high. The gap between the ground and the bottom of the glass fence should not exceed 10 cm. Any climbable objects like furniture, trees and pots should be kept 90 cm away from the fence, so kids can't climb over them. The frameless fence should also be made from toughened safety glass that meets Australian Standard AS/NZS2208 — specifying the functional property of the glass. Once you have made these decisions, your design will fall into place.

Choose a Design That Resonates with Your Home

Glass is a versatile material that complements almost every element, but that doesn't mean that you should completely ignore certain aspects of the design. For example, you can choose a delicate finish with rounded glass pool fencing or you can choose a square fence for a crisper look to the home. Make your creative juices flow as you integrate colour accents into your glass pool fence to add a dash of brightness to the space. You may also want to hire a landscape artist to help you plant trees and bushes around to craft a warm and inviting façade.

Understand Everything Included in the Installation Costs

Before you make any decisions, ensure you are aware of everything included in the installation price. Keep in mind that some installers may simply quote their hourly rate without including any other materials necessary. Be sure to get your installer to include the price of gates, hinges, hardware, panels and everything else involved in installation before you sign on the dotted line. Far too many instances have seen homeowners slapped with hefty installation bills because they didn't read the fine print that excluded material costs. Fencing installation can start from $48 per square metre just for labour, but you may want to get an all-inclusive quote (with materials) before you decide.

Be sure to follow these smart guidelines for safe and aesthetically appealing frameless glass pool fencing.
